Underwater acoustics

Main research line

Underwater acoustics studies the propagation of elastic mechanical waves in the aquatic environment, their generation and reception, and their interaction with the environment and its boundaries (the sea surface and the seabed and subsoil) and with the living beings that inhabit it.

Projects developed in the group:

  • Development of active exploration techniques (echo sounders and sonars) of the water column and seabed for characterising and controlling biomass behaviour in fisheries or aquaculture or monitoring sensitive ecosystems.
  • Study of the propagation of underwater noise and passive systems for its monitoring, the environmental state of ecosystems and species tracking.
  • Design, characterisation and calibration of underwater acoustic observation, communication and positioning systems.
