Research Institute for Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (IGIC) of the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia (UPV).

The Research Institute for Integrated Management of Coastal Areas (IGIC) was created in July 2007 to consolidate and strengthen research capacities at the Gandia Campus (Universitat Politècnica de València, UPV).

The general objective of this institute is to promote and develop scientific research of excellence in different aspects of Integrated Coastal Management, as well as to disseminate the results and applications obtained among the agents and the economic sectors involved, and to contribute to the specialised training of experts in areas related to the research field. This is possible by taking advantage of the wide experience and scientific quality of the faculty staff of the Gandia Campus in technologies applied to marine and coastal problems and after the contribution in several cases with previous collaborations and synergies between groups from different areas of knowledge.

Currently, the IGIC includes 62 research projects grouped in 11 research groups, working in three research areas: i) Studies and conservation of environmental and biological resources, ii) Knowledge, planning and management of coastal areas, and iii) Tools for marine and coastal technology analysis and monitoring.
